android security threatAttacks on three fronts ensure attackers have all the information they need to steal banking details in the latest evolution of the Marcher malware, warn researchers. Attackers are combining credential phishing, credit card data theft, and malware into a single campaign targeting banking details. While it's common to see attacks involving phishing or malware, the combination of these tactics in a single campaign targeting Android devices of financial services and banking customers indicates the extent to which attackers are willing to play a longer game in order to get to their goal. The attacks combine phishing with the distribution of the Marcher Android trojan, a form of banking malware which has been active since at least late 2013. Lures previously used to distribute Marcher include a fake software update, a fake security update, and a fake mobile game. The attacks begin with phishing emails containing a shortened link to a fake version of the Bank Austria login page, which has been registered to a number of different domains containing 'bankaustria' in the title, in an effort to trick the user into believing they're visiting the official site...Read all the details on OUR FORUM.
Microsoft aims to map the whole world in 3D PDF Print E-mail

hololens patentOne of the best features of the Microsoft HoloLens is placing virtual objects firmly fixed into a real space and finding those objects still in the same place when you leave and return. This impressive ability, which gives virtual objects some real-world permanence, is due to the HoloLens creating a spacial map of an area the first time you enter it, and then using that data to fix objects in space in relation to its environment.  The map is stored on the device and then recalled when you re-enter the area. In a 2017 augmented reality patent, Microsoft proposes to speed up the tedious process of the first scan by storing the results online and then sharing it with other HoloLens owners, meaning instead of having to recreate the surface map each time a new user enters an area they could simply access an existing one...Complete details can be found on our FORUM.

xbox one x resolutionThe 4K monitors are currently the top spec that gamers could lay their hands on. While some of the gamers might prefer a 4K monitor the options are pretty scarce and in the meanwhile, the 1080p monitor is still selling strong. Ever since Microsoft announced the Xbox One a lot of gamers have started to prefer the 1440p monitors. Once again we don’t really have a good range of 1440p monitors on the offering. In the meanwhile, someone speculated that the Xbox One X just displayed a supersampled a 1080p image on a 1440p monitor. Most of the gamers presumed that the Xbox One X would simply supersample the 1080p image and run it through a 1440p display. If this is true then the display would not be as great as expected. Thankfully that’s not what happened. The Program Manager for Microsoft Xbox Platform Partner cleared the air and said that the console would indeed output at 1440p resolution when connected to a 1440p monitor. So, if you were looking out to use a 1440p monitor with Xbox One fret not. Microsoft has promised that the upscaling from 1080p won’t happen...Full details can be found on our FORUM.
Kim Dotcom makes police pay heavy price for ‘military-style’ dawn raid PDF Print E-mail

Kim Dotcom and his ex-wife have reached a confidential settlement with police in New Zealand over the “military-style” raid and arrest at his home as part of an FBI plot. Dotcom said he agreed to settle for the sake of his children and because he felt the New Zealand government had recently changed for the better. The Megaupload founder sought damages in the High Court for the raid on his home that was part of a global FBI operation to bring down the popular file-sharing website. The Special Tactics Group raided Dotcom’s mansion in 2012, using what he described as “unreasonable” use of force in a “military-style raid.” The anti-terrorism squad arrived by helicopter at dawn, in what Dotcom said was, “a Hollywood-style publicity stunt tailored to appease US authorities.” More than 70 police were involved in the raid as they searched the mansion for Dotcom, breaking open the children’s bedroom doors in the process. Dotcom’s then-heavily pregnant former wife was made to stand in the cold in her nightclothes. Dotcom and three others were arrested and the US has been attempting to extradite them to the States ever since. Police reached settlements with the others involved at an earlier date, the NZ Herald reports. These settlements are believed to be in the six figures, while Dotcom’s settlement is likely a greater amount. Dotcom was also the subject of risk assessments used to justify the use of the anti-terrorism squad which carried out the dawn raid. Photographs of him holding shotguns, which were taken when he was clay pigeon shooting, were among the pieces of evidence taken into consideration.   Dotcom was also subject to visual surveillance without a warrant, which included police watching him from neighbors’ houses. A police officer also wore a hidden camera inside the home the day before the raid. The internet entrepreneur said he respects the New Zealand police: “They work hard and have, with this one exception, treated me and my family with courtesy and respect.” "We were shocked at the uncharacteristic handling of my arrest for a non-violent Internet copyright infringement charge brought by the United States, which is not even a crime in New Zealand." Dotcom is continuing to fight his extradition to the US. Source

We reported yesterday on a new rumor suggesting the “Surface Phone” may feature a “holographic display” and will be able to display holograms. This feature was apparently driven by Alex Kipman, the father of the HoloLens. At the time we were mystified by the idea, but, who keeps track of these rumors, recalled an old prototype from Microsoft Research which may just fit the bill. We wrote about the project, called Floating Displays, way back in 2014, and was related to the canceled McLaren Windows Phone which would have featured 3D Touch hover gesture technology. The technology would use a Kinect-like sensor to detect gestures and would use a specially crafted thin film on the screen to project an image floating above the screen...Complete details are posted on our FORUM.
